My Personal Struggles With Pregnancy Weight
Written by Hillary Karch May 29th 2018
In today’s society, women feel pressured into having a particular figure. We see all sorts of “beautiful fit women” posing on Instagram, or other social media accounts. Most girls I was looking at on Instagram have some sort of work done, were blessed, or may have had the great body, but didn’t have a personality or a happy life.

I read a scripture at church one day, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” -
Psalm 139:14

That scripture hit home for me. I have been comparing myself for years, changing my body composition for a career in modeling or fitness, but not for myself. God has already made me into someone wonderful, now I just had to start building goals for myself and not what others would see of me. He gave us the power to challenge ourselves, change, make ourselves great, and become something.

I knew I loved fitness, helping others, and looking my kind of fit! Eating right, focused training, and leaving time for my family, friends, and faith. Once I changed my priorities, I started to feel better all around. Before I was so glued to being skinny to hopefully become a model that I shut out so many good things!

Now that I am 16 weeks pregnant and starting to show, my mindset is even stronger. Of course, I have the occasional, “I feel bloated”, “I don’t need that”, “I need to do more of this or that”, but I am happy and am working toward my goals. I still eat healthy for a majority, I’m still going to the gym, and I’m listening to what my body says!

I am feeling happy, beautiful in my own skin, and amazed at what the human body can do. I am trying to have the mindset of embracing what God has given me. I don’t look at this as a phase of life to fall off and get big just because I’m having a baby. I look at it as a miracle from God, to be healthy, and inspire others along the way.

My goal is to stay going to the gym 4-5x a week throughout my pregnancy, build my legs, and strengthen my core. Also, further into pregnancy, I am planning to build a program for pregnant women to encourage them to get into the gym and remain healthy during pregnancy. A lot can happen after birth, but I plan to stick to my game plan of setting specific goals and “bouncing back”.

Some may say its selfish to spend time at the gym right after the baby is born, but I believe it’s healthy to get your endorphins moving again and to feel comfortable in your own skin again. Exercise, meditation, stretching, and doing things you love will help reduce the change of post-partum depression.

I’m looking forward to this fit pregnancy and fit Mom journey and will share along the way.

Thanks for reading.
